The First Northern War resulted in the complete and ruthless conquest of Cintra by Nilfgaard, but the advance on the North was halted at the Battle of the Sodden Hill, where Northern mages among whom are future Lodge founders like Philippa Eilhart and Triss Merigold, proved a deciding factor. Spanning more than half the entire continent. Maybe Sabrina included that into her curse on purpose to help Philippa and not just to hurt Henselt.Mighty Nilfgaardian Empire is the largest polity in the known world,
It wasn't mentioned in the flash-back cutscene, but I wouldn't be surprised if Philippa had previously arranged for Sabrina to set up a contingency plan in the event that she lost her position at court. Sabrina seemed willing enough to die for the cause when she requested help casting the fireball spell, so maybe she planned to further the Lodge's goals with her curse even as she was dying. However, depending on Sabrina's state of mind while she was burning to death, she may have been acting out of spite or she may have intentionally planned for the sterility to provide the Lodge with an excuse to get another sorceress close to Henselt under the guise of curing the sterility. As long as Sabrina remained Henselt's adviser the Lodge had nothing to gain by sterilizing him. Maybe you're right and there's more to it than that, but I'm not sure if it was planned in advance.
I took the game at face-value when the characters said that Sabrina's curse was responsible for Henselt's inability to have more children after his son died.
